On the longest day of the year, Garden supporters gather for cocktails al fresco, live music, and a solstice meal to raise funds for the Garden.

Stillness and Movement: Japanese-Inspired Floral Design
Explore a modern interpretation of the Japanese art of floral design known as Ikebana. Using everyday vessels like bowls, teacups, and vases, each participant will be provided with seasonal flowers and the necessary tools to create and take home a unique arrangement that takes inspiration from the garden and pairs it with Japanese design principles.

Mysterious Mosses Talk
Join us to discover the wonders that lie hidden in the miniature world of mosses. Dr. Jessica Budke of the UTK Herbarium will present an exploration of the diversity of mosses that live in our lawns, between the sidewalk cracks, and in our local forests.

Wild Weeds: Culinary and Medicinal Creations from Foraged Plants
Winter and Early Spring are chock-full of nutritional garden weeds that can be made into medicines and delicious dishes! This workshop starts with a plant walk that helps students confidently identify beneficial plants that are often overlooked and disregarded as “weeds” then moves to a hands-on session of tasty food preparations, as well as how to make a weedy herb preserve, and medicinal wild weed vinegar for health throughout the year.
