Field Trip FAQ

  • Please fill out a Field Trip Request Form least two months prior to your desired date.

  • Please have your bus pull up to/into the Visitor Center parking lot, located at 2743 Wimpole Ave. Students, teachers and chaperones may unload and gather in LeConte Meadow, the grassy field adjacent to the parking lot. Garden staff will meet you there.

  • In the case of severe weather, a rain date will be scheduled in advance and Garden Staff will communicate any cancellations should thunderstorms appear likely in the forecast.

In the case of light rain, we will plan to proceed with the field trip and encourage everyone to dress for the weather.

  • Please encourage students to check the weather and dress accordingly. Prepare in advance with sunscreen, close-toed shoes, hats and water bottles.

  • Please do! There are many open grassy areas to enjoy a picnic lunch.

  • Guided field trips are $8 per student and free for teachers and chaperones.

  • At this time we are not able to accommodate staff-led, mixed grade field trip groups. We are excited to announce the addition of “Discovery Packs”, which will be available for check out from the Visitor Center. The packs will contains thematic scavenger hunts, field guides, books, and activity materials that groups can use to explore the gardens. There will be five packs. Please email sarah@knoxgarden.org for more information.

  • Garden staff will provide access to restrooms during the field trip. Please note that the Visitor Center has only two individual restrooms and will not accommodate a large group at one time. Larger restrooms will be available just a short time into the field trip.

  • Please bring a check made out to Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum on the day of your field trip. Should you need to submit payment by different means, please contact sarah@knoxgarden.org.

  • We currently schedule field trips on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays in the spring and fall when schools are in session. In general we begin field trips in the morning, but specific timing can be arranged as needed.
