Field Trip FAQ
-
Please fill out a Field Trip Request Form least one month prior to your earliest desired date.
-
Guided field trips are $8 per student and free for teachers and chaperones.
-
Please bring a check made out to Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum on the day of your field trip. Should you need to submit payment by different means, please contact education@knoxgarden.org.
-
We currently schedule field trips Tuesday through Friday in the spring and fall when schools are in session. We are also happy to host an afterschool field trip or summer field trip if that better suits the needs of your group.
-
Please have your bus pull up along Wimpole Avenue and enter the gravel path directly across the street from the Stone Roundhouses. Students, teachers and chaperones may unload and gather in LeConte Meadow, the grassy field adjacent to the parking lot. Garden staff will meet you there.
-
A rain date will be scheduled in advance and Garden Staff will communicate any cancellations should thunderstorms appear likely in the forecast.
In the case of light rain, we will plan to proceed with the field trip and encourage everyone to dress for the weather.
-
Please encourage students to check the weather and dress accordingly. Bring jackets as the mornings can be cool. Prepare in advance with sunscreen, close-toed shoes, hats and water bottles.
-
We love having our field trip classes stay to enjoy a picnic lunch. Please pack all lunches into coolers or boxes and plan to leave them either on the bus or on the picnic tables in LeConte Meadow. Please do not have students carry their individual lunches off the bus.
-
Our field trips are structured to help students learn among their peers. If you have a mixed-age group or would like to plan for a homeschool field, please email education@knoxgarden.org. Please note we will divide mixed-age groups into smaller group to keep the curriculum age-specific. In order to reserve a date you must have a head count for the size of the group.
-
Garden staff will provide access to restrooms during the field trip. Please note that the Visitors Center has only two individual restrooms and will not accommodate a large group at one time. Larger restrooms will be available just a short time into the field trip.
