Group Visits
Self-Guided Visits
As a public garden open to the community at no cost, we know that many groups come to visit on their own, without scheduling a formal tour or field trip. We are always delighted to see the community enjoy the Garden, whether it’s a group of long-time friends, a university professor leading a class, or a homeschool group doing hands-on learning.
We would love to learn more about your visit. The information you share provides valuable data that supports our grant applications and program strategies.
Please be sure to stop by the Howell House Visitors Center where staff can orient you to the property, provide maps and restrooms, and you can explore the Garden Gift Shop.
Thank you for planning a visit to the Garden!
We look forward to having you.

Guided Tours & Experiences
In 2026, we are pleased to pilot a guided tour option for groups who would enjoy a deeper, more intentional visit to the Garden.
Guided tours are available for $100 for up to 10 people, with a $10 fee for each additional participant up to 15 people. For groups of 16-25 people, the cost will be $200. For groups larger than 25, call 865-862-8717. Tours will be scheduled during our regular business hours (9am–5pm daily), as availability allows. Please submit a request at least three weeks before your earliest desired date.
Tours last approximately 90 minutes and may focus on the Howell House and surrounding gardens; the Martha Ashe, Row, and Secret Gardens; the Dogwood Walking Trail; or select a field trip–style approach that weaves together science, art, poetry, and sensory exploration.
We will do our best to accommodate your preferred date and will request feedback and input at the conclusion of your tour as we shape this new offering.
